Where Do The Words Go

Where do the words go
Down the page
In the book
On the shelf
You know

Where to the words go
Out of the head
On the paper
Scale the caper
Oh, OH

Where do the words go
In the hidden heart
Deep in the soul
And on the pages now
Only the spaces show

Where do the words go
Spent at a party
In a passing car
On the nearest star
A mystery to show

Where do the words go
Between me and thee
He and she
Faces and baby
To pictures below

Where do the words go
Into the ground
To sprout the seeds
In rain coming down
Sunlit sound in swaying trees

Where do the words go
Sent to the spirit rising
Beyond painted horizon
Higher than lightning
Passing Jupiter Calypso and Pluto

Where do the words go
Cleansed in waters above and below
Returned to the Cosmos in
Spiraling eternal shuddering colors
Love’s Utterances of long ago

Poems Naive

Hello All:

The poems herein represent feelings, reflections and moments in time. They are original drafts, some of which remain here in all their glory and have not been edited. The criticism that I get from most of my writer friends is that the poems or stories do not have a beginning middle and an end. This is because most of us here in the west, whether we know it or not, have been trained in the style and structure of classical literature. In the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, from beat poets, to Bukowski to rap there has been some movement away from that strictness of form, as seen in the visual art world first with the French painters of the late 19 century and the Spanish painters of the early 20th, culminating with folks like Jackson Pollard in the 1930s 40s and beyond.

That being said a lot the work here is amateur and naive, and without the polish of the outstanding professional training and talent represented by the rich literary traditions available to us in each of our respective places of origin.

I'm not sure that I will get around to tidying up around here, so if you see these poems elsewhere in the future looking a little different and some with changed titles its all good. You can say; well I knew those poems way back when, before they were all clean and shiny. Thanks for looking in -

and Best Regards,

Gentle Elevation - with audio

audio link

Walking long in the majestic woods
Cabins watching like men in hoods

Eyes unfolding mysteries o’er the sandy path
Conifers, Pines, Oaks, and deep green undergrowth

Angelic Sunlight reaches down through leafy branches
Kind words, knowing smiles, hushed voices, a Blue Jay dances

Love is given and taken in the rich mountain air
Woodpeckers overhead work and play with equal flair

Tap tap tap tap tap, flying, sailing, diving, chattering
A pond in the distance, surface rippling, hardly noticing

Peaceful thoughts in the day’s hot fractured light
Sounds of mice in the ceiling, mountain lion’s cries in the night

Cold dark restless outside, inside quiet prayers, bodies calm
Blanketed sleep, murmuring softly, popping flames charm and warm

Coffee and eggs, with sleepy happy faces
Packing and cleaning then on to other places

Oh gentle elevation touched by descending cloudy vapors
Each heart beats out a song, singing of your stunning favors

Farewell to all creatures, wildflowers and living things so pretty
Down the winding ways speed we away toward the distant city

A WRENCHING THING - with audio

audio link

Sleep comes crashing down
Upon my brow, upon my brow
I see him now, I see him now
A man obsequiously bowing low, bowing low

Can I have a dollar?
I say no, I say no
What for I ask?, I almost holler
To buy food you know, food you know?

I’ll buy you a chicken
But he says oh no, he says oh no
My face twists up, blood thickens
I think he’s a fake, he’s a no go

I watch through the store window
I follow in his wake, in his wake
I think perhaps that oh
I made a mistake, I made a mistake

I go back out, in a different mood
To give him a five, to give him a five
But he is no more about, a chance for good
Has passed me by, has passed me by

What a wrenching thing it is to abide
The morbid caress of coldness, of coldness
Come in from the world outside to reside
To rest within my breast, within my breast

In my turning turbulent dreams
Running away from my screams, my screams
I think that if I shall live
May God forgive, may God forgive

And when in humility he comes again
Machismo and pride both cast aside in pain, in pain
Reaching out with eyes and words hoping
May my heart warm and my hand open, my hand open

Many a Blessed Scarlet Tear - with audio

audio link

Petals were strewn about on the ground
Like many a blessed scarlet tear
She cast them down in the garden
To bring me morning cheer

I sought her face among the flowers
But there I could not find her
So in the yard I went about
Giving little green lives a caring shower

Plunging through the sunlight pure
Rounding another corner
Waking afresh upon dawns breath of air
Among roses, camellias and citrus, but more fair

A vision of this day's joy upon the walk
My eyes found awaiting there
We entered into a long warm embrace
Kissing and caressing without a care

Joining in the cold and dew
Love's precious tender affections
Once again this day to renew
Savoring each heart's reflections.

Alone - with audio

audio link

Alone, alone

In crowded room

Or on the moon

Alone,  alone

Identity unknown

Destination home

Alone, alone

What to do

Make two, one

Alone, alone

Kisses morning and night

Make it right, make it right

Alone, alone

Without you

Lost and undone

Alone, alone

Seeing you

Across the room

Alone, alone

Touching your heart

Life again

Alone, alone

Loving you

You alone

Alone, alone

Take your hand

Alone in mine

Alone no more

In your embrace

Forevermore

Polluting The Minds Once Free - with audio

audio link

The clouds have descended
The fog is back
Bouncing off trees
In the Outback

Anxiety rising high
Mood sinking low
Readying the back
For the many falling blows

From little men
In cold dark suits
Enforcing victim-hood status
Micro abuses, imagined slights

Deconstructing mores with splendid finesse
While wearing the cloak of bloody righteousness
Disguising a cavity of unbridled greed
Polluting the minds of (you and me), once free

Fraternal Twins - with audio

audio link

So thirsty for the water of good
That a parched blind beggar
Settled instead for mud
Fraternal twins, one carrying, the other caring
Searching and driving each other's onward tread
Pearls strewn about shoulds and shouldn’ts
Black and white in the fertile seabed
Passing by there many a time
To stare and gloat and brood
Hoping in the heart to catch
A hopeful glimpse of purest mood
Or something else to make one mad
But like a river you elude any capture
The eyes disciplined like a soldier
Drawn scouting onward like a seagull
After crabs in the green sea’s sandy shoulder
Page after page scrolling ever downward
Desire deep within ebbs away at the soul
Turning shallows quixotic, beauty, then scoundrel
Till one should watch over and heal the other’s hell
But time and season can ne’er abide
So outmatched are they by a gaping hole
A life force not directly satisfied
A story not to be finished or told
As sunlight reflects and fragments blinding
Downcast upon foaming deep darkest sea
To raise up the mists and clouds above
Sating the earth below with dewy greenery
The lofty lowly self holds the ups and downs of life’s blood
Sometimes spent for naught, but overall meant for good
Not power’s thirst, conquest’s boasts nor bleeding greed
But for the giving of one’s life instead
Laboring in the fields of love’s fertile seed

Haiku x9 - with audio

audio link

Softly lay one down
Ears caressed, wind's whispers speak
White Autumn Blossoms

The cackling hens
Could not take away the peace
Of calm fall water

Sunshine overhead
Shady morning trees walking
October birdsong

Twin Pines sparrows flight
Standing in the morning light
Pumpkins, Autumn bright

Fall rain, sun's sharp rays
Butterfly quivering fade
Floral horizon

A sliver of peach
Cool against purple abyss
Autumn moon silence

Blind hidden sorrow
Dried up joy melting the heart
Silent winter tears

The more pure love is
Less faults in the heart to find
Early comes the Spring

Little pretty one
Laid low in stormy showers
Summer Rose standing
